I'm a bit gutted. I only work 2 days /week at the moment and have been offered to increase to whatever I want.

I really enjoy working part-time but would like a few more hours.

BUT dd3 at nursery and can put her in an extra 2 days no problem but absolutely no places for dd's 1 and 2 at after school club.

There's no advantage to finishing work at 2.30 as I still have to pay for a full day at nursery so my take-home pay would be more or less nil.

There's no real solution for anyone to offer but I'm just so frustrated I feel i have to vent. Those extra hours will now be advertised and someone will step in over me (it would have been a promotion as well)

Are there any childminders who do afterschool collections ? Or another mum or 2 who could do it until theres a place at afterschool club ?

Would it be worth doing anyway to get the promotion even if extra take home is more or less nil at the moment? Presumably places at the after school club might open up later, or other options, and it would be a shame to have turned the opportunity down because of something like this if a solution presents itself further down the line.

I'm going to work out all the costings again but mainly holiday cover is a problem - I can have a place at holiday club but for 3 of them for a full day is £75 but because I would have to finish at 2.30 for term-time cover I would actually be about £15 a day worse off. I wouldn't mind working for nothing to some degree but having to pay to work is another matter!!

I'm going to talk to my work about it next week, they would be really flexible as they've already said they would like me for the promotion.

Childminders are a bit of a sore issue in our house, we have used 2 that have been dire, one I even reported to social services but that's another story. We're a bit loathed to go down that route again....
