breast feeding and back to work

i am dreading it but in 4 wks time i will be back to work.im breastfeeding baby (who will be 6mths) and want to do it as long as possible. baby is taking two spoonfeds daily and loads of breast feeds on demand. my problem is although i dont work every day my shifts are 13hrs long!!!also dont have childcare sorted any1 find isnt flexible or funny about me still wanting to breast feed!!!other problem baby uses breast to fall asleep for day time naps and im fully against crying out technique....a big list of wows... any help would be greatly welcomed!!!!

I went back to work 3 full days a week when my DD was almost 10 mo. She was exclusively BF and hardly eating any solids when I went back.

She is now 15 months, at nursery FT and still BF. I started off expressing but it got harder and harder and she wasn't drinking much of what I was struggling to express so I stopped. She has water during the day and BF morning, evening and during the night.

If you haven't managed to sort out childcare yet you may be stuck. 4 weeks time is the school holidays and I would imagine most CMs will be full.

My nursery doesn't have a problem with me BF- why should they? I actually BF her before when we arrive at nursery to settle her before I go.

I also BF her to sleep at home but she has a sleep at nursery every day. They soon realise that it's a different routine and get on with it.

I have gone back 2 weeks ago. DD2 is 9 months. On my short days, she has a feed at 9am before i leave her and she goes straight down for nap. Then I feed her when I return at 4pm.
On my longer days I nip back at about 2pm to feed her as shes not far from my work.
She can go all day on her food and water, and has done before. She has 3-4 feeds a day atm.
Its hard work but if you can find the right childcare its easy HTH

It is perfectly possible to go back to work and continue BF - I did. You need to sort your childcare out pronto though!! I don't see why whether you continue BF should have any effect on finding childcare??

Find Childcare you are happy with and go from there. A good Nursery will support your BFing and no crying to sleep position. Mine were great - although DD was nearly a year.

I witnessed them putting her to sleep and I was so that she went off. After that I knew she was in good hands

How many days do you work and what hours? Many people find they can feed extra around their working hours. Alternatively you could top up with Formula and continue BFing the rest of the time. I know that is not what you will neccessarily want but it may help.

And remember in a few months she will be able to have cows milk in a cup when you are not there. We do this 3 days a week and DD still BFs quite happily at all other times.
