Health care assistant and bank nursing

I'm looking to find a job that is flexible around school hours. Left nursing 7 years ago and so not currently on NMC register therefore can't practice as a qualified nurse.


Anyone else have experience in this sort of temp work?

Am I mad?

Dont think that there is much out there now due to cut backs etc. I got some Bank work locally but they hardly ever rang so asked for a 12 hr night shift instead- therefore garuanteeing me some hours each week

Could you consider a return to practice course?

You may be able to sort out childcare in the short term to cover this and upon completion apply for bank or agency work to suit your hours

Return to Practice courses seem to be like gold dust in our area. The courses were up and running until 2005 but due to govt. cut backs have been discontinued. You now have to find a clinical placement before starting the academic course (that's if you can find one).

paid for my own return to practice(Midwifery) some years ago, but it was worth the outlay and time.

Have you thought about approaching private hospitals? I used to work in one and they had their own bank and were especially keen on nurses working in school hours.

You might be more likely to find care work, in a nursing home or in client's homes.

Jalopy I am on the bank as a HCA I make £5.78 an hour which is the lowest they pay (band A) which is a bummer as I am a student nurse and have experience in care work.

I really like it, in my trust there are always loads of shifts and I love picking when and where I work.
