I am considering going back to radiography, ideally to then train as a mammographer.
I qualified in 2008 and worked till 2011 (though some of that was sick leave) I then had an operation and couldn't at that point return to work. I instead pivoted into an applications specialist role which I did until 2015/2016 (I didn't return after my second maternity). I think I have been off the register for at least 6 years so I have to try and do 60 days of retraining before I can go back on.
Has anyone done this? I don't want to do my retraining says (30) at my local NHS hospital so would need to go to a hospital 10 or 15 miles away. Are they set up to allow returners to do these returning shifts? I am assuming unpaid and that's absolutely fine, but I'd want to do a day a week for 30 weeks and I don't know if they are set up for that. I can't afford to do more than that really.
Do BMI places ever take these roles on?
My basic plan is to do 30 days over 30 weeks of supervised practice and then spend a day a week studying and refreshing my knowledge and also put myself on any red dot / paediatric / anything study days. Does that sound reasonable?
