I have a meeting to discuss reducing my hours at 1pm. At present I work 0830 to 1600 5 days per week. I am asking for 0830 to 1630 4 days per week. I've written lots of stuff down to support my case in todays meeting but am still sure they are going to say no. I work for a very large company but the office I work at only has a few people there. We recently had a a re-org and now some people have been taught how to do the urgent parts of my job.
The place didn't fall apart when I was on maternity leave and I was recently off for 7 weeks sick as I have PND but again they coped.
I really just want a day where I can be with my DD as I feel so guilty having to work FT. DH earns less than me so I am main breadwinner, but don't earn a huge amount. Reducing by this amount leaves us a bit short per month but it's a small price to pay to be with DD.

So how did it go? Sounds like you have a really reasonable case.

Well, they weren't keen on my suggestion as the extra half hour a day wouldn't be of any benefit to them but they gave me three options:-

Work an hour less per day - 5 days per week

Work 3 days per week - 7 hrs per day

Work 4 days per week - 7 hrs per day

The last two options are on the condition they can find someone to employ for just one or two days per week.

I really didn't think I could afford to go three days but re-hashed the figures properly doing all the tax and NI and it's not too bad and we could live fairly comfortably. Hubby also got interview today for new job, closer to home, more money etc.. so fingers crossed he will get it and then I will definitely go for 3 days.

Thanks for your response, was hoping to get some response before 1pm but didn't so wasn't feeling particularly positive before going in the meeting!

Thanks

Good luck with your choice, it's never easy is it?

Hmm, sounds a little bit tight of them. But fingers crossed re DH and his job interview.

How long do you have to wait to hear?

Well it's been left up to me to decide which option I prefer after working out our finances. Once I'm sure then they will get an agency involved to try and fill the day(s) I'm not there.
