Apply in writing...

I'm gonna sound really thick now but does "apply in writing" mean sending in a covering letter with a cv attached or send in a letter requesting an application form?

I'm working 8 hours a week at the moment but it's for my friend so I didn't have to apply or have an interview!! Prior to that I was a SAHM for 12 years so I've forgotten the do's and don'ts of applying for jobs.

Jobs in school offices are so few and far between that I really don't want to get the first impression of me wrong.

Thanks!

I would send a covering letter with a CV attached.
