Currently self employed now thinking of going back into employment

I am currently working as a self employed part time consultant doing mainly financial modelling and have been doing this since I had DS2 in 2007.

I have an ACA accountants qualification and before having DS1 I worked in a big six accountancy firm in both Audit and Corporate Finance although this seems like a long time ago now.

DS2 starts high school next September and I am considering going back into full time/part time employment.

However I have a number of reservations about this before I make a start in looking for a job and wonder if you could help me with your thoughts on how a potential employer might view the following.

  • If I get a job now (say to start in Jan 2018) I would like to work part time until Sept 19 in that I would like to still be able to collect DS2 from primary school some days.

  • Alternatively I am happy to work from home for a certain number of hours a week to enable me to pick up from primary school but these may not always be within working hours. ie finish at work at 3, do school run and then work 2-3 hours in the evening.

  • how would an employer view my period of part time self employment? The amount of work I do is inconsistent and flexible although I have survived for so long as it attracts a high hourly rate. It is not a lot of hours but I have worked on a few big projects and will have a number of influential director/CEO level people who I could call on for references.

Also what do full time parents of secondary school children generally do for half terms, I am thinking of a mixture of DH working from home (which he already does quite a bit), working from home myself, leaving them on their own some days and some residential activity based holidays
