Feeling guilty!/is this realistic

Hi all,

I'm in a pickle over whether to return to my retail job that I don't really like to do part time hours or to stay at home with my baby boy until he's older and can get free child care.

At the moment, I'm just escaping a harmful relationship with baby daddy so single parent to 4.5 mo baby. The council will offer temp accommodation via dss. My maternity pay stops November and I don't really have anyone to look after ds part time and feel distrusting of strangers to look after him so young.

My heart says stay at home with him till he's older but not sure if it's financially possible.

Help! Confused

Sorry to hear this, it sounds like an awful situation for you. I think it will come down to finances and whether you will be better off working or not.. is there someone at the council or online who can advise you on the benefits you'd receive?

There probably is someone who can advise me at the council but I guess my question is are there single parents out there that have lived off benefits for a short while and been okay? This is all new to me!
