Accountancy? AAT training?

Accountancy? AAT training?

I’ve been a SAHM for nearly 4 years and hoping to return to work 1-2 years from now. Prior to maternity leave I worked in a graduate admin role in the charity sector.

I see accountancy in various forms suggested a lot as a good option for retraining and I also have a friend who is undertaking AAT training at the moment who has recommended it to me.

I suppose what I want to know is - what’s the catch?

It seems to be a very accessible training and not too expensive. Surely though, if it’s that easy then everybody would be doing it?!

Are there that many accountancy jobs out there? Is there a high risk of redundancy? Can you actually get a job having completed the training but not having experience? Is it better to aim for an entry level job and study towards qualifications while working?

Any advice or suggestions are much appreciated. I’m not naive enough to imagine I will be looking at high paying jobs and nor do I particularly want the associated stress that usually accompanies them. Just something relatively family friendly (ideally with part time options) and stable.

Thank you!
