Anyone used Upwork? (Or another freelancing site)

Long story short, thought we'd be moving and I'd have better job opportunities, but no such luck. It looks like I'll be heading back to my part time job after maternity leave. The job market where I am is horrendous. It took me six months to find the role I have now, and I've been looking for something else for just over a year. Nothing has come up. So I was looking at sites like Upwork to maybe supplement my income a bit. I'm not thinking mega bucks! Just using it to rebuild our savings pot.

I'm currently an office manager, I have a retail management background. I have experience in admin, drafting contracts, letter writing, invoicing, reconciliations of accounts, that sort of thing. Fairly experienced in recruitment too.

I guess what I'm saying is, do you think I stand much of a chance freelancing with these sort of skills? I'd love to hear from anyone that's given freelance sites a go.

That's really reassuring Ruth. If you don't mind me asking, what does she offer on there? And does she do it full/part time?

And if I may be especially nosey, do you know roughly how much she earns from it?

She writes content for web sites - she has a specialist subject
i know she works part time and sorry do not know what she earns overall - but $25 an hour - she does about 12 hours a week -

my other comment is that there seems a wide disparity in what people expect for their money -

I work via People Per Hour and it is ok, but the amount of work from there has definitely tailed off in the last year or so. There are a lot of sellers on there!

You also loose a bit on fees and exchange rates.

Thanks for everyone that got back to me!

Looking more into it, there does seem a lot of erm ... CF's seeming to want a lot of work for seriously low amounts! Maybe freelancing sites aren't the way to go for me, even if they might be a good boost for the CV! Going to keep an eye out and only bid on projects I think would be worth it.

On the other hand, I've applied to he an SMS Psychic Operator 😂 I presume I should get an interview... or a 'test' of my abilities as a fraud.
