Returning to same job

I'm returning to work in may following 9 months maternity leave, I'm having to chase and chase my boss to get things sorted and I have a feeling he is going to try and give me a different job role - simply because my colleague has been covering for me and he wants to keep her in the job. My question is, can he do this? Surely he cannot let her have my job and put me somewhere else? I know because I've taken additional mat leave that I'm not fully entitled to my old job, but surely he cannot do this?

I've also requested to reduce my hours, if they were to offer me a new role because they say i cannot do my current role part time, can they demote me?

No advice I'm afraid
But watching with interest as I went back to work at the start of the year & was approved to do 3 days a week & have been reassigned roles. Whilst I'm reasonably happy in my new role I do miss my old job.

Hi Tiggery, can I ask if your salary remained the same for your new role? Obviously it would have been prorated but did they attempt to reduce your pay? This is something else I'm worrying about

Yes; salary remains the same - just prorated. They'd struggle to reduce it further as it's minimum wage (or close to!)
They've been rather accommodating but I do feel slightly taken advantage of as they've failed to pay me all of last years entitlement that they owe me as I only took 2 days before going on leave.

Oh no, are you going to try and get the pay they owe you? At least they've given you a role you are happy with for now

Yeah; I'm hoping to sit down at the weekend & put it all down in a letter to them so it's not a garbled mess! I've been meaning to do it for ages but DP has said he'll take DD out for the day so I can get a few bits like that done.
I'm not hugely enjoying part of it but it's all experience & if I do decide to look for something else it will be an advantage as it will increase my options IYSWIM.

Good for you hope you can get it sorted. Yes I know what you mean, I'm wondering what I'm going to be offered, part of me just thinks take whatever it is because hopefully in a couple of years I might be lucky enough to have baby number two
