What do you do when you've spent your life doing a little bit of this and a little bit of that, but lack any clear career direction?

I'm at the point were the kids are old enough and I want to focus on my career (or lack thereof) again. I have degree in the arts, and a master's, but in a field in which jobs are now very hard to find and low paid. I just seem to be going from one dead end job to another.

How you I make my last 40 years meaningful for prospective employers?

And how the hell do I figure out what to do and how to get there?

<wails in frustration>

I had a colleague who had a degree as an archaeologist, and had retrained to computer programmer of legacy systems.

Could you focus on one niche of your varied, hm, portfolio and sort of downplay the other parts?

Get onto a proper career path in an organisation like the nhs and work your way up.

I have a similar problem and that is my plan. Wish I had 40 years though!!!
