Work

Need a job ASAP but struggling

So I have been a SAHM for 10 years ( husband works full time, on a lowish wage but we get by and we made decision for me to bring up the kids and not use childcare)
I need a job ASAP as money is a struggle and I need to somehow fit it around my husbands job as we can't afford childcare costs so he will need to help look after kids. His shifts vary each week so it could be difficult. My youngest is 8 months old.
I tried applying for jobs but sometimes I don't get past the online assessment. I'm also apprehensive with working because of my low self esteem, I feel like I can't do anything right and that I will make loads of mistakes. I also have OCD and anxiety which I know will cause me to struggle with a job. I don't know what to do, what jobs to apply for. I've did volunteer work for about a year on retail. That's all I have on my CV. I don't have no where to get a reference from. It's stressing me out. I can't do anymore volunteer work because i really need a paid job. Any suggestions?

Get yourself to a fast food place and sign up, they take on anyone. You might hate it but you need to do something in the mean time.

A year at a KFC is better to a recruiter than a year of unemployment. You can focus on getting what you want while doing a job that simply brings some money in.

I agree with Sunshine. Find a low skilled local job; bar work, garden centre, retail, care home, etc. for a few hours a week. It will start bringing some money in and give you some experience. As soon as you get out there and start doing something you will start to feel better which will boost your confidence.

I wouldn't worry too much about the first job you take. You can work out what you want to do alongside this job.

What kind of work have you done before? Would it be feasible to do some sort of evening course to update your IT skills, for example? Contact your local job centre to see if they run any kind of "getting back to work" events or similar. Do you have any friends in similar situations in terms of needing to fit around kids/school hours and if so, what jobs are they doing?

Will your husband have the kids whilst you're at work? Sorry, that's a lot of questions!
