Is anyone here a councillor?

Hi, I'm looking into becoming a councillor, I think I'd be good at it and it's always something I've been keen to do, can anyone tell me the best way to get into it, I'm starting from scratch and our local college doesn't offer anything in the subject. I've looked at open university but I can't quite work out which is the best route to take. Thanks.

Counsellor or Councillor? If latter, Parish, District or County?

If you mean counsellor, voluntary groups often offer courses. You can volunteer and train up at the same time. It's good experience and looks good when you apply for work and courses in future. Pick an area you have an existing interest in and look for voluntary groups that support that.

I have a degree in counselling, volunteered with charities that work with young people, most places wont even take you on as a volunteer unless you are in your second year of degree or level 4. Its hard work and the chance of paid employment is extremely hard unless you have 500+ hours of practise and accredited by the bacp and the nhs will hardly go near you unless your trained in cbt. Still either way you go it is incredibly rewarding
