If/when to ask for informal visit

I've applied for a job in a school and am wondering if it would put me in a stronger position to ask for an informal visit. There's no mention of doing this on the job application and as a school hours/term time job I imagine there will be quite a lot of applicants so I'm wondering if they'd welcome having to take time to meet people informally?

I only sent my application today and the closing date is at the end of next week. If I should visit, should I get onto that now - would it be a bit presumptious seeing as I've not been offered an interview yet?

Sorry for all the questions, I've been working at home for the past six years and am eager to get back out in the world again and really want this job.

I've always asked to look around a school before putting in the application. It's saved me time in some cases (decided I didn't want to work there) and in others, helped me tailor the application better.
I've never felt it was an inconvenience for the school - indeed, I think most HTs I know rather like to have a walk round an chat beforehand.
