Flexible working request

I was interviewed for a role, found out at interview it's 9am-5.30pm, and whilst I would love to be offered the job, I can't find a way to work til 5.30pm as that's when after school club closes and I don't have any other childcare or pick up option.

If offered the job, what would the best approach be to secure a flexible working pattern? Fours days over five, but shorter days, reflected in part time salary? Flexible start and finish and no lunch? Take work home?

I'm used to working flexibly as a freelancer and know I could make it work, but would a prospective employer consider any of these or am I dreaming?

I think your best bet is to wait for their reply about the job and informing them about your situation. You are better off putting to them that you need to leave a bit earlier than 5:30 and hopefully they agree to it, if they do then make sure you get it in writing. Letting them know you can do all of the job role and just need to leave say 30mins early should go well

Can you just ask for what hours you'd ideally like, and put your cards on the table? It depends if anything else is actually doable and how desperate you are to work and work for them in particular. I sent off a speculative application and was honest about what hours I'd really like and they were granted. It won't put everyone off the idea of employing you.
