Please help a lazy arsed Walrus to earn as much as possible for doing as little as possible!

Ok, currently I am working as a very part time cello teacher from home. However, I need to be earning more money, as we are struggling atm on just DP's wages. However, I have't a clue s to what sort of job I can do. I have done a bit of playing in the past, but I'm not cut out for doing that as a career really. I also did half of a PGCE, but I left for personal reasons. (Had to move away from the city I was living in too)

I have also worked for a publishing firm in production, doing stuff like proof reading etc, but it was so long ago!

I need to find myself something to do, as I am desperate to use my brain!

Any suggestions welcome (well, all suggestions except prostitution)

Does it have to be from home? Could you finish your PGCE and then become a music teacher in a secondary school or primary teacher specialising in music? What about a Jo Jingles (or similar) franchise?

have looked into finishing a pgce, but we can't afford for me to do it as i wouldn't get funding to do it again. As for the jo jingles option, i used to work fot the local franchisee, and there's about 8 million different toddler music thingies around here!

Hmm, it seems a real shame not to use your music in some way. What about a music/dance/drama group for older kids (that you could run with a dance teacher)? What county are you in?

the oboe, but haven't played for years. i did grade 8 on it though about 100 years ago

My ex husbnand had about 30 pupils a week. on Satruday they'd be coming here from 8.30am continuously to about 7pm sometimes. That was music teaching from home. It it's £17 a half hour or whatever for 12 hours that's about £400 a day if you're lucky. He also could do tuition in maths, English, theory, singing all could be done from home.

why don't you flyer around local schools and see if they'd like you to do an after-school strings group?

then each child can pay £5 or whatever .. you could do a link with a music shop for string instrument hire .. and you could do group lessons?

or recorder ...I bet you could easily teach recorder and state schools don't have much music budget but parents will pay for it I bet

University students are another way to drum up business. Many students wish to keep studying instruments they pursued in secondary school, and are looking for economical, quality tutors.

My husband also did a lot of oging to people's homes to give lessons but that involves leaving the house. One of my children's music teachers puts on a concert you have to buy tickets for which presumably makes some more money too. If you can play on the neurosis of parents worried about school entrance tests there is a reasonable amoutn of money in general tutoring and it's not that hard to work on past papers with children. I also used to mark some A level papers which used to pay for our summer holidays. That was from home. Writing articles too you can do from home.

I've a friend who is so knowledgeable about football he makes quite a bit of money on football accumulator betting things from home. Although I'm not recommending gambling. My second daughter says she's never left the casino without a profit but I'm not sure I believe that.

I have got 4 pupils who I teach atm. I'd love to have more, but it's taken me 2 years to get those!!!! I do travel to Bristol each week to taech one of them, but I'm not keen on this, as I can only do it when DP is around, and it adds another hour onto my time.

May be it depends on the area you live in whether people are trying to get lessons. There is a huge shortage around here of all kinds of music teachers. Parents almost fighting to get places.

See, I live in Bath where all the little Tarquins and Henriettas have all got their music lessons booked up. There are also lots of cello teachers.

I have advertised further afield, to places like Frome, westbury and Trowbridge, but I haven't had anything back from any of those places
