Hi everyone im
New here and have got an interview tomorrow for a care home specialising in dementia and alzheimers. I really really want this job and would like to study dementia further. Does anyone know what type of questions i may be asked? Thanks in advance

Hi.I worked with Dementia for 10 years I absolutely loved it smile
So,it was a long time ago,but they were questions like 'Do you know what Dementia Is?' (I didn't) 'Can you suggest any activities?' 'What would you do if a resident grabbed you and you couldn't get away?' 'How would you communicate non verbally?' And 'What would you suggest if a resident wanted to go somewhere that wasn't safe for them?'
Good luck I hope it goes well!

I haven't worked in dementia care specifically but have worked in (and interviewed people in) social care.
We asked questions about confidentiality, team work, person centred planning, choice, dignity, health and safety and risk assessment. Our questions were scenario based so a risk assessment question might be something around a person you support wanting to do a risky activity and how you would handle it. We'd want to hear that you'd safeguard the person but do what you could to help them achieve their goal and make sure their choices were respected. For us, we were very much looking for the kind of staff that put people first and ensured their rights, choices and dignity.

Best of luck!

Hi I hope it went well for you! And I hope they don't make you wait too long for an answer,I hate that bit.
With regards the grabbing thing, you will (or at least I did) have training so you can release a grab without hurting them/yourself,but it depends on the situation, they may have grabbed you because they are scared, upset, they may not be trying to hurt you, even though it's frightening for you,so you may be able to ease yourself away with calm talking, distraction.
Sometimes it's as easy as saying 'Do you realise your hurting my arm?' Because they might not, they may just be looking for a friend.
