I am going back to work ft next month with a 4 month old and will be doing about 3 nights a week. Anyone any experience of this and just how knackered am I going to be? I have childcare sorted up until 3pm on the days I am working the same evening but nothing if I have the next evening free if that makes sense.

So if you finish your last shift of thw week you will go home to a 4 month old and have not be able to have a sleep until that evening ... thats how I interpreted what you said...if thats the case get some child care for that day as well as after 3 nights you will be knackered !

I used to work shifts in cluding nights before and after children. I had child care sorted on everyday except my first night shift. My Dh would try and get home early so I could have a couple of hours early evening ( didn't start till 9pm). My two were 2yrs and 6 months when I went back to work after no 2)

Some days I used to get home from work say 6.30am and have to stay up to take children to day care nursery ( waiting outside at 8am for them to open up ! ) that was bad enough let alone stay up the whole day with them.

Although your 4 month old may have some nice long naps during the day now , it wont last forever so reconsider about child care for that last day !

Also from the sound of it you haven't worked nights before so it may take a bit of time to get used to it , recommend ear plugs and very good black out blinds or those eyethings that you sometimes get on aeroplanes.

Good luck with your new job

My MIL worked 3 nights from when dh and his sis were small - she still does it now! I don't think she had any childcare for her last night either. It was hard, but she managed. When they went to school it was easier. I'd try and get childcare for your last day though, if you can.
My MIL used to take Nytol as well as she found it hard to sleep in the day!
