Can anyone suggest careers that take 1-2 years part time post-grad training (following an English degree). To result in a post working with people. Am happy to do volunteer work, or work in a related field while I train.

I originally planned to become a primary teacher, but I'm having second thoughts due to the amount of overworked, stressed teachers I know. I have an unrelated job I can go back to part time after maternity leave - but I've been there for 10 years and there are no real opportunities for moving upwards, and I'm thoroughly bored with a job that doesn't really suit my personality.

Anyone got any ideas?

2years of full time training, social work post grad? If u r in scot u might get bursary to train. Also while the two 20 week placements are full time and very demanding, most unis are closed for summer break between the two years, and the two terms of lectures and essays, while still needing full time effort, are a bit more flexible.
May be too demanding but would get u into a good job working with people. English was my first degree too!

Most PG courses in social work don t keep to the undergraduate uni term. Master s courses run all the way through without a long summer break
