Last week I had an initial chat with my boss about return to work. I want to take slightly longer than the 6 months and I want to go back 3 days. It was a casual chat so it wasn't official but I got the impression that my job would only be available to me if I came back F/T and after six months which I am not prepared to do.

My job is of a nature which if I put in a proposal to work P/T they could justify not accepting it, although if they were being truly flexible then I think it could be made to work, but want to pick my wars wisely IFKWIM

I think I can make them advertise it as job share, which would be one option, but if that doesn't work out is that it, am I technically redundant , and if that is going to be the option can I then go back to a years maternity leave because at least for the remaining 5 months I would be getting car allowance ?
I am prepared to look at any p/t or job share within the company, which is pretty big, but would I get paid while I was doing that or can I stay on maternity leave ?

Sorry lots of questions I know but I am sure lots of mumsnetters have been through this and the employee assistance line wasn't particularly helpful.

Thanks popsycal.

I am not a member of a union, I checked the TIGER website and its helpful about how to word the proposal but doesn't say much about what happens if its rejected, I know I could appeal but I'd rather try to get another job share or p/t position than put my energy into what would probably be a lost cause.

Hi - I just saw this and had a similar issue at work. The final line was that I was only entitled to come back full time as it was post 6 months and not even to my origanal role. I opted to take the full 12 months - i didn't get my form of pay during this time and luckily they found me a p/t 3 day week ( at the last minute!!). I think the policy may vary from company to company, but mine are quite generous with flexible working type things. I found that I didn't really have much to back me up. Not sure if this helps at all - sorry for rambling......

Thanks for that KKK747, sounds like the same situation. I was beginning to think maybe maybe I should go back f/t or 4 days but I don't think that's what would work for our family particularly as we can just about afford for me to work p/t.

I had a helpful discussion with someone from HR on Friday and she was really positive. I'm going to put forward a proposal to job share on current job, which from reading the blurb they would have little ground for rejecting, then if they don't get a job share partner for that I can stay on extended mat leave until hopefully something comes up.

Luckily we have savings so can extend my mat leave up to the 12 mths if we have to, may loose place in good nursery but there are other options.
Keep your fingers crossed for me.

Keep talking to HR - that is what I did and I found that if you make a good contact they can be really helpful.
Best of luck!! Will keep my fingers crossed for you.
