How to decline job offers

TurkeyDino · 21/01/2013 13:49

I am in the extremely lucky position of having 2 job offers and a 2nd interview scheduled tomorrow. Obviously I will need to decline 2 of these offers and to put it mildly I'm shitting myself about making the calls.

I have only once declined an offer and the guy totally lost it and was extremely rude to me which is probably clouding my view but if anyone has any tips on how to gracefully decline I would be very grateful.

Just politely let them know that you have decided to accept another position. Depending on how keen they are on you, they might ask what was more appealing about the other position and discuss whether there was anything they could do to persuade to to take their role.

Do let them know as soon as you can though - it's extremely frustrating when someone takes ages to respond to a job offer as you don't want to turn down the 2nd/3rd best candidates until your preferred choice has committed to accepting.

First of all well done! Thats incredibly hard to do in this climate.

As January says just confirm you have had another offer and inform them asap. If you leave them hanging they will only become annoyed. The most professional thing to do will be to politely inform them you have another offer on the table. Who knows...with your good luck, maybe you could start them bidding....!! :)

Thank you. Have just declined one and it went well. They told me to get back in touch if I fancy a move in the future Grin
