Travel Agent Job

I'm thinking of re-training. I have been an office manager for 18 years. I love travel and languages and currently doing an ou degree. My question is how do you get into being a travel agent with a view to getting onto manangement level in the next few years (children will be older then) and is the money any good (at least eventually) ? I would go independant as the larger comps Thomson etc are constantly re grouping ( eliminating) and front line staff seem to be the ones that go as internet and call centres seem to do better......
