Extra Work

I've been looking for part-time work to fit around looking after my dd. Are there any mners out there who work as extras?
How would I go about getting work and what is it like working as an extra?

Thanks in advance

Do you mean an extra as in films/tv? I've done it but 1 filming tends to be eight til eight and 2 I've never been paid for it as they have so many people that want to do it, it's easy to get people to do it on a voluntary basis.

That is what I meant fairy. Thanks for your post. What was it like?

Pretty boring, actually.

A lot of hanging about, waiting, then some scenes where again, you are hanging about (eg: queuing to get into a gig, then a scene at the gig, pretending to like the music x 10 takes each until they get the right one).

I also thought of something else. Filming tends to go on for as long as it's needed each day - they have to be on schedule, due to finances (camera men, PA's, Directors etc are expensive! As are actors and equipment).

So if you want something that fits around kids, this might not be it, because they might need you 'until they are finished' rather than 'until three thirty'.

I have also done some Production Assistant work - people think it's terribly glamorous - but three weeks 8am til 8pm in the middle of winter, hanging about callling out camera rolls and writing down what happens time after time (between 5 and 10 'takes' per shot) is really not at all glam!

Sorry to be negative - there may be others with more positive stories of extra work.

Bookcase - do you like books? I have work you can fit round dd, working as and when you want to, and even taking her with you!

I'm not on here much (when I need a pick-me-up feeling depressed about being on my own with a toddler!) but let me know if you're interested and I'll get more info to you.

Smile it is, and great fun too!

Basically, I sell Usborne Books, which I'm sure you've come across. The idea is that you work as and when you want to, where you want to, to fit in with your family. I have a 3 yr old and I'm a single mum, so I go to lots of toddler groups, set up my books, chat to lots of new people, sell books and therefore earn money. My lo gets to play with lots of new children and lots of new toys...and there's no childcare costs! And the toddler groups love it as I give them some free books for letting me sell there!

And of course there are home parties, which involve a couple of hours work at someone's house, and right now people are falling over themselves to book as the Sale is on, and party hostesses get LOADS of extra free books.

It really is a fun way of earning money, and all the decisions about where, when etc are up to you.

Message me your email address and I'll send you more info if you're interested!

Thank you. I'm not really looking for sales work, although I do like the sound of free books :)

Ha ha - well loads of people do sign up just to get cheap books for themselves and friends - you would pay 24% less for all your books...
