Ha Ha! Anyone else think tis pointless to ask a child to joint the school "Gifted" programme - in Yr 13!!!

I PMSL laughing this morning. Got a letter from the school saying DD had been identified as being "Gifted" and would benefit from trips/talks/weebsites etc.

All well & good, but she has submitted her UCAS application and is in her last year of school!

She is also NOT gifted (Failed 11+, average CAT tests etc), just EXTREMELY hard working & motivated.

I suppose this is due to NAGTY changing, they are letting everyone know about the new website etc, and great for younger kids, but I don't think much is going to happen extra for DD's year group!

One of the 'definitions' of Giftedness was at least 8 grade A at GCSE. Milligirl got that didn't she? So she IS gifted! You do know the Edison quotation about genius being 99% perspiration and only 1% inspiration?

It does seem a little late in the day - do you think that they have some forms / quota that the school needs to complete?

Yes, she got 11 A* GCSEs and 5 A AS levels!

I think it is all good stuff - just thought it funny that the letter said they had "just identified her)

Hey, it's not a bad thing to put on her CV is it. Not that her CV will need any bolstering though!
