Just found out DD will be going on school's G&T register -- probably for literacy. Apparently the school is in "a bit of a conundrum" about how to address her needs (age 7, start of Y2).
I need to get my head around our priorities before school says what they'd like to do -- so I can think on the hoof in the meeting, etc. I reckon that DD's happiness in her social life comes first, it's more important than extending her academically. I reckon that DD won't achieve her best unless she's socially happy.
But it could mean that she won't work to her full potential, if she's not mixing 'enough' with older children (mixing loads with other classes would limit her time with her current friends, who she doesn't see out of school time, and she's not very socially adept, anyway).
DD not very interested in extra-curric activities.
Today a friend (a primary sch teacher) was saying that I should check what the school's action plan for DD was, etc.... but all I can think is, "Will it make her happy?"
Does that sound sensible or excessively unambitious ... (slattern mother alert) ?
