DD in year 7, twice exceptional child very high CAT scores, horrendous processing scores, assessed by dyslexia research trust as visual processing disorder - dyslexic characteristics.
So it wasn't a surprise that she was selected for challenge and extension. The program is not just for show, child mets with mentor (selected by principal strength) twice a term, C&E coordinator once a term, there are presentations and talks several times a term and a yearly project to complete. They create an EEP (exceptional education plan) for each child.
But from all the gumph it appears parents have no role. What would you expect?
Would I be unreasonable to ask to meet with mentor to see and discuss EEP?
There are some issues that get over looked, like her spelling which is truly awful as she can't yet spell all the words on the NC year 1 and 2 lists. Would you expect EEP to cover this or only the areas in which she has been identified as G&T.

I'm sure it would be completely reasonable to ask to meet with the mentor to discuss the EEP.I would also raise the spelling issues - surely they should be considered as part of your DD's needs. But that does require holisic thinking - so maybe not...

I have never heard of an EEP but I would expect a school to be able to have a plan - or maybe two plans to deal with the spelling issue and the g and t for your child.

Thank you for your thoughts Geranium the EEP is listed in the schools challenge and extension program documentation, but yes this is the first time I have come across it.
It is parents evening next week so we will see what comes up. The spelling is really not good they are having weekly tests which in DD's words are disastrous she gets all the definitions right, but may only get one spelling out of ten correct. They are not being given any spelling tactics, I am also a dyslexic and I am aware that my solution ( you just have to learn it by rote) is not the best.

Are the spellings just Random difficult words? If so how about suggesting having spellings that have bits in common eg sock, lock, block, knock etc. Spelling can be really hard to learn otherwise.
