V Heavy Period - embarassing

Lea2003 · 17/08/2005 19:14

I am really worried. Have had very heavy period today - getting through a pad an hour for a couple of hours and when I went to the loo I seemed to lose 'something' like clots of blood. I am/was not pregnant and have no pain at all and feel fine - just scared. My MIL says its one of those things you get at a certain age - I am 36!
Dr's surgery is closed today - emergencies only and the local Family Planning Clinic says not to worry its just a heavy period!

Anyone have any experiences of this

Yes - nurse told me to do a test - said it would show up still if I was having a miscarriage - was negative.

Lea, I suffer with this all the time, but, I have excruciating pain for a few days too, if you are still worried go to the doctors, they should be able to put your mind at rest.

Mine are always really heavy for the first couple of days, since I had my coil put in. Occasionally get clots too. If this is new I would go to the drs, but I'm sure you don;t need to worry.

unfortunately, I get this every month (with clots and all) - some months are worse than others and some months I have bad cramps and some months none at all. I find when I have days with clots that pads are less painful than tampons (although if I go out, I normally have to wear a super plus tampon plus a super pad to stop flooding).

I would go to GP just to be on the safe side if this hasn't happened to you before though. Also, perhaps take a multivit with iron while this is happening.

Thanks folks - was really worried - and couldn't think where to find out without scaring myself doing an internet search! Will wait and see what doctor says. Mind you just spoke to my mum who apparently had the same thing so may be hereditary.
