Sudden white "pimples" in tongue

DS was fine and after dinner he started asking to have his mouth cleaned, when I looked at it there were this white lumps, they look like pimples (with white heads) but are located all around his tongue. Is this an allergic reaction?, a virus?. Can't find any reference to it on my health dictionary (the only thing mentioned a bit similar is under measles BUT the pimples in measles are supposed to appear in the lining of the mouth which I'm not sure if it includes the tongue, does it?).

Any clues? help? suggestions?

the spots in measles (koplik spots) generally occur on the inside of the cheeks so its not that could be an allergic reaction to something he's eaten our a viral infection Have you looked if there are any in his throat

WMF great to see you around, I had a look at the other thread but it seemed that I was not sure about the virus as he doesn't seem to have any of the other symptoms. Did it appear it suddenly (in the space of an hour?). How contagious is it? we have some friends with children visiting us for this month... oh dear... how long does it last?

Have to say that DS is asleep at the moment so it has been a bit difficult to have a good look at his throat but the cheeks are clear.

Hi Chandra Our dd had no symptons until after the tongue appeared ...........and dw was the same. It must be pretty contagious as all our nieces and nephews had it too. Worst thing was the loss of taste and smell

Well dds was milder than dws. She was just a bit under weather but didnt eat at all. Dws really hurt so I guess poor dds must have too. Hate to tell you this but some other posters said it lasted four weeks for them . DD got sores around her mouth as the tongue got better. Hope your little one is okay and only has a mild dose.

Four weeks??? , though I'm more worried at the cold sores as DS has eczema and that was something we were told to be especially careful about...

For those who had the virus, did the "pimples" disapeared over night?. I'm starting to wonder if it may have been an allergic reaction (he has lots of food sensitivities).

The question is, he has been waking up during the night but now seems OK and the pimples are gone, should I send him to nursery?
