Very thirsty toddler - anything to worry about?

DD2 has always been quite thirsty but seems to be drinking more than ever lately. She can get through a huge beaker of water, with or without juice added, in a couple of minutes and be asking for more straight after. She's also weeing a ridiculous amount and one nappy no longer lasts anything like a whole night. Is this just a normal and healthy response to the warm weather or should I be worried? I did wonder about diabetes but surely there'd be other more major symptoms like weight loss if it was that?

I used to worry about the same thing with my DD (who is now 6). She used to drink gallons when she was a toddler. I think if you feel she is generally healthy there is nothing to worry about but as always if you are worried mention it to your HV.

if i were you go to Dr and have it checked out...

drinking seriosult lots is a sign of diabetes and it would be sensible to rule this out

if you drink a lot and wee a lot though I think that's just a sign you're thirsty and not one of diabetes

My dd goes through a lot of water and juice, and in fact I've started threads about it too.

The chances are that she is just thirsty - there would be other symptoms if she had diabetes. You can buy testing strips though (I think they're called Diastix) at the pharmacy to check the sugar in her urine if you think that would put your mind at rest.

Twigleet being VERY thirst IS a sign of diabetes..

you are SOO thirsty you just HAVE to have water... so you do... and as a result you wee alot.

remeber a whiel back a mum in knew (freind of freind) had a child who kept drinking... she said youve had enough and wouldnt give any more... found child drinking out of bathroom tap (as child reall felt NEEDED a drink)... took to Dr and it WAS diabetese.... this child had no other symptoms.

Better to rule it out in my opinion
