Different members of drugs from the same family can have slightly different characteristics. For example one may have an earlier on set, one may last longer, one may be metabolised more quickly etc.

The same family will tend to work on the same receptor, so work in the same way but have sliglty different effects based on its chemical structure (which will affect things like how fast it is absorbed etc)

THink of it like being 'sades of a colour, all pink but some pastel, some vibrant etc
