Not sure you should have co-codamol and whisky. Best thing would be to drink some water and take a hot water bottle to bed I think

wotcha sallystrawberry...the studies have stopped but the ibs lingers on

i had it all last week [have had it on and off for years]
i bought an ibs 'over the counter' remedy from boots.took two tablets across the day, felt no benefit WHATSOEVER,had a hot bath ,went to bed..next day it had gone.
you decide!

I suffer from IBS & was led to believe that alcahol irritates it (not that it has stopped me!)
Have you tried fybrogel (or however it's spelt!)
I was prescribed it, but it made me gag so I didn't persevere!
I find co codamol helps a lot & have recently started taking a supplement called acidophilus from the health food shop which is meant to help if taken 2 - 4 times a day.
Don't know of many other quick fixes though.

I take peppermint oil capsules (colpermin) about an hour before I eat and it works really well - not much help to you now tho'

Sounds pretty typical of my syptoms SS.
They tend to stick around for x amount of weeks & then dissapear 4 a while.
Have you had it officially diagnosed?

gingerbear Wed 29-Jun-05 22:04:19

you need mebeverine from the doc. need to take one 20 mins before food (complete pain trying to remember)
In the meantime, I wouldn't have booze as it irritates the bowel - painkiller better, plus aearly night and doc in morning.

last weekend was the first time i have ever treated myself to a 'remedy' cos it just went on for so long.
with me it is def stress induced [however usually arrives just as the stress goes..if you see what i mean]
id be inclined to believe the booze relaxes your innards notion.booze and a hot soak in the bath then bed.

beansontoast Wed 29-Jun-05 22:08:23

but booze is an irritant

blueteddy Wed 29-Jun-05 22:09:31

Really???
I am the opposite! I know it is very more than likely IBS (& had gp's come to that conclusion), but each time I get a really bad spell I am back to the gp! I am such a hypo!
I am on a waiting list now for the horrible camera up the bum thingy!(Not keen on this idea) to actually diagnose it properly.
