ds has - what looks like a little black hole in his new molar at the back. Surely not if its only through for about a month? and if it is how would the dentist deal with it - I can only get to see it if I tip him upside down!

Apparently as a baby I had weak baby teeth and had to have fillings in them. They were undercalcified or something. Maybe this is the same thing? poor wee boy!

TracyK, my dd 2.8 had this recently - I took her to the dentist and they said it is just a malformation while the tooth was growing. She filled it with a little bit of white paste (like temp filling stuff) and said it is nothing to worry about

it would be very unlikely for a tooth to decay that quickly even if there is a problem with the teeth (ie a genetic malformation of the enamel etc) the only way to be certain is to take him to the dentist to have it checked out, they can refer for treatment if necessary to the community dentist who can work to encourage the child to co-operate or treat under sedation or general anaesthetic (if absolutely necessary) sometimes its not actually a hole but a dark spot either simply developmental or (and i know this sounds ridiculous but i have seen this) food caught in the crevices of the tooth (eg a strawberry pip)

well it did appear after he had eaten a kiwi fruit - so I have been trying to scrub that particular tooth with the brush to see if it is a pip. But he has his other molar coming through on the other side and sometimes doesn't let me brush if it's sore. But had a good scrub tonight - shall look in the am.
