My period usually lasts about 6/7 days of which 5 are reasonably heavy bleeding and the last one or two days, there is just a tiny amount necessitating only a panty liner. This month, however, I am currently on day 10. It started the same: 5 days of normal loss, but I am currently on my fifth day of needing just a panty liner. I am not particularly concerned, but it is blooming annoying! Is this yet another sign of my age or does anyone have any other insight into why this is happening? TIA.

how old are you?

44

Have had lots of minor changes and complaints relating to my cycle in the last couple of years (been to GP - nothing sinister) but none of them particularly classic pre-menopause stuff.

Just wondered if this was a classic sign, or a sign of anything really!

Ive just passed my third month without a period. I had a ruptured ovarian cyst a couple of weeks ago, I have long standing PCOS and the doctor wanted me to have my ovaries out as I am menopausal. I told him he was joking and left the surgery. I am currently looking for a more conservative approach and investigating gynaecologists who speak english.
If I were you, I'd go back and speak to the GP and maybe have some blood tests done.

Funnily enough, had blood tests done today but only to check for iron levels etc.

About 2 years ago I had a blood test to check hormone levels to see if I was prei-menopausal but they came back negative. I know something could have changed in that time. I hate to say it, but I wish I were menopausal.

I'd say you are peri menopause.

I had this a few times late 40s although my periods did not stop completely til 53.

DG - same situation here. I think we may have discussed this before. I am just waiting it our and hoping it will all go away.

Yes Orm, me too. Could be a long wait though, eh?

Really annoyed about this. Given I usually have 3 days of "pre-bleeding" and my cycle can be as short as 24 days, I could be wearing protection for 13 days out of every 24 in a worst case scenario. Jeez!

I thought my period had finally ended yesterday but there was fresh blood in the loo (ie not just on the paper) this morning. SOB!

Sorry, that really is TMI, I know, but I am feeling quite low and assaulted on many fronts at the moment and just had to say it.

Oh DG It is awful when it goes on and on. The worst thing for me is that I seem to get PMT worse than ever but as my period is usually very late the PMT goes on for ever. Weeks!

It's just a load of crap isn't it? I don't really get PMT (dh would disagree but he is mistaking all-round grumpiness for PMT!) but this month I had a sore stomach for about 10 days before the period (which is what I went to GP about) and the last 2 months I have been ill during and after my period for about 10 days each time. It is getting to the point where I might have about 3 days of feeling normal every 5/6 weeks at this rate. Bloody shit

have you tried any herbal remedies?

No. I keep meaning to try agnus castus as it's been recommended here but haven't got round to it yet.

I'm 43 and after a year or more of periods every 21 days and bleeding for one week out of 3, they seem to be lengthening out and with my last ones I went for 25 and 26 days but bled on and off for 10 days, it's a real PITA.
Don't get PMT much anymore but my boobs get SO sore from right after ovulation till I come on, they just feel bruised and heavy.
Not looking forward to 7 or more years of this .
