can using hair straighteners kill nits?

Can they? Surely they would fizzle + burn the nits? I have long wavy hair and can hardly get a nit comb through my hair even with conditioner. Was wondering if I should buy some straighteners and attack them that way, then do the combing? The nitty gritty comb is great for the dc's, but a PITA for my hair.

Disclaimer: for anyone who knows me in RL we don't have nits yet in my house. But someone at the nursery had them so I'm getting prepared now for when that dreaded day comes.

Not sure but do know that they live and feed on the scalp so unless you are going to iron your head(?!) probably not!

As newpup says you'd probably need to iron your scalp to really get rid of them!
but, if you have long wavy hair, straightening it first and then using a comb will at the very least make the combing much much esaier, so I say go for it

The eggs are the big problem and they could be firlmly attached to the very roots of your hair. SO no.

I don't know but it'd probaably make it easier to get the comb through.

WHen my daughter gets nits they seem to be along the hair shaft and not so much at the roots so it might kill off some of them. My friend swears that she doesnt get nits because she straightens her hair and dyes it

you can buy electronic nit combs. They only kill adults not the eggs, which still hatch. So they have to be used eevry few days to get rid of nits.
