Extremely dry skin - what are you using on yours? (a little survey) and can I ask how bad yours gets?

I wanted to ask about what you are using on your skin at the moment (if you get dry skin).

I use Epaderm but get fed up of putting it on so sometimes use the Simple Intensive lotion (for very dry skin).

If I don't put this on, by lunch time, my skin is starting to flake off. Sorry if this is TMI, but if I am wearning black trousers to work, when I take them off at the end of the day, it's almost like I have shed a whole layer of skin . Do other people get this?

Aveeno is great.

The other one I am using is Eucerin. It is a miracle cream. Quite expensive.

The only thing is the bottle has that it has 4% urea in it. I think that is wee?

foxinsocks · 09/10/2009 18:48

yes, it's wee :-) but I would quite happily plaster myself in wee every day if I thought it would work ;-)

does your skin flake off too?

I find eucerin great. I think the wee helps it absorb into the skin better!

Perhaps just pee in some epiderm?

Report
foxinsocks · 09/10/2009 18:55

yes perhaps if I pee in the shower, down my legs then put the epaderm on, I will be fully protected (if not a bit smelly)

Economical and soothing. What more can you ask for. (apart from no sense of smell?)

Another vote for Aveeno, cream not lotion

My vote goes to body shop shea body butter - my hands get so dry in the winter they literally crack around the knuckles, and that's the best thing I've found so far to stop it. Quite pricey but it's thick so a big tub lasts a long time.

foxinsocks.

Seriously, Eucerin is really great (ATM!) it is my new discovery.

As a side line, don't you just love it when your whole face is flaking off, you have spent many hours trying to moisturise, and you feel like crap, then someone has the handy idea 'have you tried using some moisturiser on that?'

AAAARGH! My face looks like a cheesegrater has been at it. What the hell do you think i have been doing these past 30-odd years!

ooh ow exexpat

does the rest of your skin get like that or just your hands?

thanks to everyone who has responded btw. Is quite interesting to hear what other people use and how they deal with it

oh I know exactly what you mean!

I know this might sounds a bit vile but I took my jacket off at work and then noticed that my shirt had sort of ridden out of being tucked into my trousers and when I leaned down to tuck it in, my skin was literally flaking onto the floor! One of my colleagues saw and said 'omg, don't you moisturise' and I must admit I did feel like saying 'oh OF COURSE. Why didn't I think of that' lol.

funnily enough my face only gets really bad on my forehead (which is large so hell, that's most of my face ) and on my nose for some odd reason. Still it's unpleasant isn't it grr.

I get it on one side of my chin really badly. (I think it is where I dribble at night and it winds up my eczema )

I always hate trying on black clothes in changing rooms as it does look as though a blizzard has struck the fabric after. Poor person to try it on after me!!

Aveeno is fabbo on dry legs, although mine are nowhere near as bad as you describe in the op.

Aveeno here too. I do like a bit of diprobase too. Iam eczema and dry skin sufferer too. I need to keep at the moisturising constantly. Like a bit of almond oil in the bath too.

I don't have flaking skin, but I do have very dry skin on my hands which crack and bleed on a regular basis - I find the only thing that works with that is aqueous cream. Nice and cheap too!
