Lower back pain - aaaargh ouch aaargh!

My back has been a bit sore for a week or two but was much better yesterday until I bent down to the tumble dryer and experienced a severe pain. Couldn't move, couldn't walk for a minute or two. Hobbled around for the rest of the night and didn't sleep well because changing position hurt so much and I do move a lot in my sleep. This morning getting up was dreadful but it is easing now as I move around.

HAve googled and I have no sinister symptoms. It sounds like the best thing to do is keep active and it will get better without medical intervention. Has anybody any advice to help?

Is it a slipped disc? I had that and I was winding in pain on bed begging the doctor to inject painkillers.

The human body memorizes pain, so best to get painkillers on early and def see a doctor!!

Don't just sit it out, okay. This is serious and could cause you longterm problems. Painkillers so to numb pain and rest.

Does the pain go down the leg (sciatica ie. a nerve) or is it local and stays there but excrutiating (slipped disc?).

Definitely have it checked, a friend of mine had bad back pains and it turned out one of her spine blocks was crushing a nerve, she needed surgery.

Thanks, I really don't think it's too serious. I've been able to move around quite well and whilst it hurts it certainly isn't excruciating. I found a test thing for scitica and could do the movements in that so I don't think it's that. I had an ibuprofen at 10.30 and that's taken the edge off. I work in a hospital so I'm going to run my symptoms past our physio when I catch her. At the moment I really don't think the GP would be able to add much but I will be limping straight there if anything changes. How old was your friend - I'm only 32 - my spine really shouldn't be disintegrating just yet
