I moved from County Durham to Derbyshire 3 years ago and since then I have had recurrent bouts of thrush.

It seems to go away for bout 2 - 3 weeks and then come back again. Had antibiotics, pessaries etc but to no avail.

Have had some swabs take today (sorry to be so descriptive) and the nurse says I have an errosion on my cervix which is making me bleed after sexual contact.

Has anybody else encountered anything like this?

Thanks belgianbun.

I dont think we are infecting each other because mine can go away for several months then flare up again and my hubbie is not sore etc.

I might be being totally thick but what do you mean by belt and braces?

Hi-

Is it def thrush and not BV? I ask because the two are similar, but require different management. For example, you said you had taken anti-biotics, well that would more likey aggravate the thrush rather than cure it.

Cervical erosion is very, very common, so don't worry too much about it. It can be caused by hormonal changes - are you on the pill? If so, and the cervical erosion is bothering you, then it may be worth changing your pill

Lastly - do you have any other symptoms? I ask becuase recurrent thrush, if accompanied by tiredness/ thirst etc can indicate diabetes.

Hi girlwiththecurl

I'm not on the pill, have a copper coil fitted but I am having terrible problems with PMT (really bad) have started taking St John's Wort but not had enough for it to kick in yet.

Am having some blood tests done on Monday for diabetes and my thyroid levels etc so will let you know how I get on.

Thanks for the advice.

it probably is hubby reinfecting you...most men dont have symptoms but they carry the fungus under their foreskin (SORRY tmi)
antibiotics for thrush are metronidazole..is that what you had.

Treat both of you with fluconazole capsule...Buy generic ,it is alot cheaper and ask him to put clotrimazole cream on his togger

have you had a check for diabetes as this could be an early sign

Have a google of lichen sclerosis in case it's that. Often misdiagnosed as thrush, and since it's a lot nastier, worth checking.

laurasarah.....sorry to ask so much info..

Is the discharge white, yellow or different.

Does it smell offensive?
these are ways of telling if its fungal or bacterial!!

Hi alypaly

No discharge and no smell!

Think it might be worth getting my hubbie to have some antibitoics!

I've had fluconozole prescribed by GP but he hasnt.

if it IS thrush you should take a good quality probiotic (not one of those sugary yoghurt ones, they are crap. You can get them from any health food shop.

Cutting down on your sugar helps a lot but do expect it to get a bit worse to begin with, as the thrush will have die off symptoms.

I always get thrush after a course of antibiotics, they won't be helping at all.

laurasarah..if no discharge etc how do you know its thrush.

if partner is going to be treated he needs antifungals not antibiotics.
