Pain behind nipple, possible breast lump?

Ladies, just after a bit of your wonderful advice. For the past four days I've had a kind of pinging sharp pain every now and again behind my left nipple.

Had a feel at it while I was in the bath there and I think I can feel a small lump. I'm not sure if I'm imagining it, but neither could I 100% say its not, ikywim.

I am due my period between today and thursday though so it could possibly be something to do with this? I suppose I could also just have lumpy boobs as I always think I'm feeling something.

Do you think I should get doc to check it out? I don't want to seem like a mad hypochondriac as I've been there quite a few times recently with an unrelated matter.

Many thanks!

This is not the best time to look for lumps as changes in breast tissue are really common around your period. Don't panic. You know what your breast tissue usually feels like and some people are lumpy. Once you have had your period check your breast carefully, I think they usually suggest half way through your cycle. If you find a lump or still have pain then see your doc. I had benign lumps every year for my late teens through my twenties, just fibroids. I had some biopsied and some aspirated to check for anything unusual but all were fine and generally disappeared again on their own. If you are at all concerned do visit your doctor if for no other reason than peace of mind.x

Thanks laneyjay, was thinking that myself. My mum has fibrocystic breast disease, which sounds a bit like what you suffer from, so I hope I'm not in for some of that! She was about my age when she developed it (33).

Pinging pain seems to have gone today, and boob doesn't seem quite so lumpy.

Thanks again. x
