General health

Eat fruit and vegetables - 10/10 thread BOOTCAMP, all welcome

For anyone who wants a boost to their general health. The suggested goals are:

EAT 10 PORTIONS OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES EVERY DAY - if you don't usually eat much fruit and veg I would build up gradually or you could upset your digestion.

DO (AT LEAST) 10 MINUTES OF EXERCISE EVERY DAY - can be yoga, stretching or something more energetic. The plan is that the idea of doing 10 minutes is not too daunting, and having started you may well find you want to do more.

There are no restrictions on what you eat so long as you get your 10 fruit and veg as well. The focus is not on weight loss but on improving our energy levels and hopefully our general mood and well-being. Sign up below and post here to tell us how you're getting on and how you are feeling.

Basic guidance on what constitutes a portion of fruit and veg here and you can download more detailed information by following the link at the very bottom of the page

Can I join? I've spied these threads in Active but never ventured in.

Yesterday I managed:
banana
raspberries
clementine
orange juice
carrots
broccoli
cabbage

Will try harder! I always exceed five a day, but may need some extra motivation to get to ten.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/08/2009 08:44

Hi Ffreckle. Welcome

That's a good list, I'm sure you'll manage ten. If you have 2-3 portions with breakfast it really seems to start you off on the right track for the day.

I have a freckle face at the moment too. I even think my nose is about to start peeling

TigerFeet · 24/08/2009 09:00

Hello Ffreckle... are you in Wales? DD has developed tiny freckles across her nose this year. It's very cute

Well I managed to get home from the weekend away with the baby still on the inside . I am utterly knackered though. We did loads of walking, albeit in shortish bursts. I have a back brace which stopped my left leg from feeling like it was about to fall off. We ate chips. A lot.

Happy to bootcamp from today but I doubt I'll be doing much over and above my standard daily mooching about, exercise wise.

Franny I have boy envy. Ds1 has the most delicious curls and ds2 is edible.

Pink I am incredibly impressed with your early morning antics. I'm struggling to haul arse out of bed before about 8.30 atm... god knows how I'll cope when dd goes back to school.

Just about to have a couple of nectarines.

Hello. I have a question.

Do you all feel better for eating so much fruit and veg? I mean is it worth it?

Report
littlerach · 24/08/2009 10:49

Are we all not glowing with health?
Our shiny coats, bright eyes etc

Actually, it does make you feel better (plus the lovely veggers make you feel even better) and makes you much more aware of what you eat.

Hello,

Thanks for the welcome. We're not in Wales because Bloke is in the RAF, but that's where we're from.

Took the dogs and the child for a brisk 45 minute march this morning.

Will return in the morning, hopefully with news of getting my ten portions in.

TF, how did you know Ffreckle was from Wales Is it the double f?

purpleprincess - yes it does make you feel better. I don't notice it on a day to day basis, but if I fall off the wagon I then notice how much better I feel when I'm eating more f&v. I also notice how much better it makes my waste product.

beans, onion, carrot, sweetcorn, peas, salad, peppers, raspberries, blackberries.

4 hours' digging!

ThePinkOne · 24/08/2009 15:59

I ran at 6.15 today 2x5 mins running with about 7 mins of walking before, between and after!

And pear, raisins, apple juice, and I've been shopping so lots more in and I'm making meatballs for dinner with tomato sauce containing b'nut squash, celery, carrots, peppers, mushrooms, tomato, onion....

Oh and I had lettuce in my Macchicken sandwich.

Now, veggers. I have some sad news. Flossie, I'm afraid to say, is no longer with us . She had terrible arthritis which was not responding to treatment. The kindest thing was to put her down. She did however lead a happy life, free from factory farming so we must take comfort in this at this terribly upsetting time.

I think we should have a short silence in memory of Flossie the pig.

Oh hear the sad tale of pigling Flossie
Her snout was moist, her bristles glossy.
We think of poor flossie and mourn her lossie
But at least she didn't end up as a sossie

(sorry)

ILikeToMoveIt - it is the Ff. 'Tis a letter in it's own right in the Welsh alphabet, and my daughter's initial. I am going to be militant and insist it is observed, however happy she may be to just go by F...

I start work next week, Pink. First 'proper' job in 4 years

Took DS to Monkey World today for a special treat and he promised he wouldn't have a big tantrum when it was time to leave but he did. It happens everywhere we go. He did it again when he went to play at a neighbour's this afternoon. I'm at the stage where I don't want to take him anywhere because I know he'll scream and yell when we leave. I've tried giving him lots of warning - you know, half an hour, 15 mins DS, 10 mins, 2 mins, last go etc and everything else that I can think of but nothing helps. I think I told him I wanted to leave him at Monkey World today

Blackberries
Mushroom burger
bugger
