Do bee/wasp stings really last this long?

On sunday I was stung on the foot by either a bee or a wasp. I didn't see what it was, but ruled out anything else really because it was really painful. I think I got the sting out, I can't really get that close as I've got a bit of a baby bump in the way Anyway, I can't see anything there... but two days on it still really hurts, it's quite swollen and very itchy and hot. It's been eons since I was stung by anything, I can't remember if it's normal for it to last this long.... Any clues?

I don't think it's particularly normal, no. Last time I was stung it had gone down by the next day. And a couple of weeks ago a friend of DS's got stung on the ear (and it swelled up like a balloon; a doctor who looked at it said that it was an unusually strong reaction although not an allergic reaction as such) and that had pretty much gone down the next day too.

I'd be concerned that you may have an infection in the original sting site and would try to get a GP appointment ASAP.

Oh how annoying. You're probably right. There's no oozing or anything like that, but it is hot and swollen. It's so annoying because work is mental and I'm sure they're going to hate it if I say I can't come in tomorrow.... maybe if I limp in they'll take pity!

i too was stung by a wasp about three weeks ago ,and that was even though i had my gardening gloves on,i quickly took my ring off as i knew my finger was goimg to swell, the swelling continued for the next couple of days and eventually even my hand was puffy ,so i went to the chemist and they advised me to get hydrocortisone cream and take piriton [ which i had already taken]i think it took about 6 or seven days before it felt nearly back to normal, and it was almost a fortnight before i could get my ring back on

I was bitten by a red ant on Saturday and there's still a massive itchy bump on my leg.

I know, I'm trying to ignore it. It's much less swollen today thankfully!
