Can you catch a cold by getting wet (rain)?

Caught in rain yesterday, DS (11m) was dry under raincover all day but today is whingey and hot.

I have a runny nose etc and mum says it was because I got wet - is that right?

No. That is a total myth. Cold is a virus and cannot be caught from rain smile

If you are cold and wet does it not lower your natural defences and make you more susceptible to a cold?

I thought that, mum (ex midwife/HV and still RGN) told me I could hmm I thought I'd double check though, as now DS has a temp I guess I'd better think about ringing round about swine flu <sigh>

I think so potplant...I was sniffley for 2 weeks now anyway though, just alot worse again today and mum blamed the rain. Wasn't in contact as far as I know with anyone with a cold.

potplant - that is right as far as I know. The actual cold/ wet doesn't cause it - but can make you more likely to pick one up.

I once made a radio programme on colds oddly!
