Why can I never tell if I'm hungry? My appetite/hunger sensor seems to have switched off

I know this sounds really wierd, but it's been happening for a while. I like to wait til i feel hungry before i eat, i can't seem to just eat something because it's lunchtime for eg. But often I just don't feel hungry, but then, all of a sudden i start feeling extremely grumpy and ratty and that's when i know my blood sugar is too low and i need to eat.

But i rarely actually feel hungry. I like my food but I am not one to over-eat and have never really had a weight problem as such.

Do i just need to make sure i eat at regualar intervals to make sure i don't get these blood sugar lows which are awful, like having pmt. It's hard as sometimes i am busy doing something and forget to eat and don't feel hungry as a reminder to eat, and then a little bit later i feel all ratty and realise i need to eat.

Does anyone else have this? It's probably just me, i don't really know anybody else that forgets to eat.

In my 20s I used to forget to eat quite a lot. I was very, very thin. TBH I think I didn't look after myself properly and never used to feel hungry, didn't really have a routine for eating. I'd skip brekkie and not feel hungry till maybe late lunchtime, then I'd be starving and eat the first piece of junk I could get my hands on and sometimes would miss dinner, wake up the next day feeling ill and so on. It was stress, being on the go constantly and also laziness to cook something decent. Dunno if those are factors for you?

I think if you have breakfast at roughly the same time every day, you naturally get into a habit of starting to feel naturally hungry at a rate that inspires you make something you really fancy, rather than needing to get the sugar fix.

Hi HG, thanks for responding. Those are my factors too. I do tend to have breakfast at roughly the same time, but it doesn't seem to make a difference. I can almost 'feel' my blood sugar dropping down off the scale sometimes and i get so stroppy. I think i do just need to try and eat at regular times regardless of whether i feel hungry.

Perhaps it's due to being at home. When i was working i had a set lunch hour etc so probably had more of a regular meal time routine.
