pain while having smear

Hi i went for my smear test today, the nurse tried a cuople of times but i was in severe pain when she got to the top as it were, she asked if i had had pain during sex and thinking about it i have but just thought it was me, any idea what this could be? It felt like she had hit something painful not just a general soreness ? She has referred me to the female clinic next week so i have to worry for a week now!!!
