You need to get your serum levels checked. That's your iron storage. My fbc wasnt too bad but my serum levels were really low. I feel a thousand times better after having high dose iron tablets after 6 weeks or so.

Are you pg? If so tis quite likely that your hb may have dropped in a month. Otherwise not so likely depending on what it was on your last FBC, can you remember.
If your bloods come back normal, then persist with the doctor to investigate, even if this is anxiety, tis best to know.

my iron last sept was 11 so maybe got worse slowly since then ...hmm

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:00:03

Yes, it's the same thing.

kitkatqueen Sun 12-Jul-09 15:12:57

spatone? worth looking into...

Wuxiapian Sun 12-Jul-09 15:16:09

Hercules, what sort of dosage are you on?

Iworryalot Sun 12-Jul-09 15:16:10

Hi yes got some of that but only contains 5mg of iron i think so not a huge amount as the DRA is 14 or 18 i think , does it help ? do you take it ?

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:17:04

2 x 305mg a day.

Iworryalot Sun 12-Jul-09 15:18:10

herculese what were your levels like ? before you took ironpills ?
did you feel tired to ?

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:19:27

I was very tired. I kept getting dizzy spells, nose bleeds, wanted to collapse so I could have solid bed rest etc. My fbc was 11 and my ferris serum levels were 7.

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:20:21

I was told it would take about a year to get my iron levels to normal and 6 weeks (which it did) to feel better.

Iworryalot Sun 12-Jul-09 15:26:44

Thanks hercules , i feel dizzy specially when i get up quick and tried to do exercise class ast week got wizzy when they were going round in a circle ,felt really wiped out for the rest of the day to ..
Do you know why you had low iron ?

Wuxiapian Sun 12-Jul-09 15:32:33

There are 305mg tablets?

I thought 200mg was the highest dose.

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:33:19

No, I don't know why. They wanted to get the levels up first and then investigate. I felt dizzy just when sitting down. I also developed tinnitus and have nearly got rid of it.

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:33:39

Obviously not!

Wuxiapian Sun 12-Jul-09 15:35:34

Are you experiencing any bad side effects from taking iron in such hogh dosage, Hercules?

Iworryalot Sun 12-Jul-09 15:37:40

poor you Hercules, do you feel alot better now ?
do you have to go back for tests ?
last year when this happened to me they just said was very common with women with heavy periods and of child baring age .

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:41:39

I feel much better but it has been a long hard slog. I am getting retested in a few weeks (should have been retested now but didnt get round to making an appointment).

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:42:31

I had to change tablets as first lot I took gave stomach upset but these I am now are fine.

kitkatqueen Sun 12-Jul-09 15:43:34

hiya, yes I do, and it does help - I also know of people who have been told to take 3 sachets a day by their gp. Avoids the side effects of the prescribed stuff and aparantly you absorb more from the spatone than you can absorb from the tablets. But i'm not advocating taking more than reccomended on the packet without your gps advice.

Iworryalot Sun 12-Jul-09 15:43:59

, what will they do more blood tests i guess ?
do you have heavy periods ?
sorry so many questions ..

mosschops30 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:45:31

ooh thats interesting. I normally have a hb of about 10.5.
When got pg took 2 spa tone instead of 1 a day.
My iron levels dropped to 9.2 and they have now put me on ferrous fumerate 210mg twice daily which has left my poor bowel struggling even more hmm
Wonder if I could take 3 spa tone instead??

hercules1 Sun 12-Jul-09 15:46:30

I used to have very heavy periods but not for the last few years. No idea why really.
