...really worried.....have wet bed twice

God this is embarrassing

I have wet the bed twice in the last 3 weeks, I dont know why.

I have NEVER had a problem or issue like this and I am humiliated.

The only thing I can possibly relate to it is I hurt my lower back 3 weeks ago and its still not 100% right. A week after I hurt it (carrying an object to heavy) I woke at about 3am wetting myself - I ran to the toilet and finished but had soaked myself and bed and had to wake DH so I could change the bed. I found it so humiliating but DH said not to worry maybe just a one of (I was dreaming I was on the loo!!!)

I left it as a freak accident and stopped worrying.

I woke at 4am this morning and was soaked through no dream that I can remember this time just had wet the bed.

I have looked on the internet and the only thing I can find is stress incontinence but I am not stressed about anything at all. I dont have a problem during the day and go as normal.

ANY ADVICE APPRECIATED

Go to your GP. Could be an infection, could be related to your back injury, could be just too much to drink before bed combined with unusually deep sleep. But incontinence of urine + back injury = trip to the doctors!

Stress incontinence doesn't mean stress in the "I'm stressed at work" sense.

There are 2 types of incontinence - URGE incontinence and STRESS incontinence.

Urge is when you get no warning and have to go NOW !

Stress is when you leak urine when coughing/sneezing/laughing/jumping on trampoline etc.

Have you got any pain on urinating ? Bladder infections ?

Thats what I was thinking, I wasnt sure if the back injury could be related but it seemed a bit of a coincidence. After the first time I thought it was one off deep sleep/to much water but now its happened again I am really worried.

I would second the GP advice.

You could try phoning the surgery now and seeing if you can get an appointment for this afternoon as an emergency. Its probably not, but it is worth getting checked out.

Any change in sleep pattern? Children sleeping better...?

Are you in PAIN from your back still? Taking any medication?

You must go to the dr asap. This could be a sign of an infection - even if you cannot feel anything - or it could be related to the back injury, or it could even be simply that your pelvic floor has for some reason weakend and needs exercise. Whatever the cause, it is almost certainly treatable.

(I feel for you. When dd was about 1m old, I suddenly lost control of my bladder in Sainsburys. Completely.)

morningpaper...no change in sleeping pattern for me or DD. My back is lots better but just a pain in one small area when I cough/turn/lift leg. I could hardly move when I first hurt it. Was using a pain relief gel and heat pads but not used anything for over a week now and no medication

another one for an urgent gp appointment if you have linked it to hurting your back. Please dont leave it.

Pop and see your GP , you will prob be asked to provide a urine sample so maybe best to pick up a sample pot from the pharmacy/GP surgery beforehand, that way you can go in fully armed and they can test it there and then

Oh god no! I didn't mean to scare you, but to show you that you're not alone. It only happened the once, and the gp was certain it was a consequence of having just given birth - and advised me to work very hard on my pelvic floor exercises.

Kidney infection - I have done this with them.

However, I do know my mum has hurt her back recently lifting something too heavy and trapping siatic nerve. She has been told if she is having problems going to the toilet - either not being able to or spontaneously to contact the gp asap

I had similar, I pee'd myself most days so wasn't going v far, at the time lots was going on and i was v v stressed, I went to the Gp who examined me, and my urine, and I had to do a diary of when it was worse.

The stress went shortly after, and so did the incontinence,I've not had a problem since.

Hi thanks for asking stealthpolarbear. I saw my GP this morning, I took a urine sample with me. She didnt seem concerned at all about my back pain and never examined me/my back. There was blood in my urine which she has sent of for further tests. She has booked me in to see a different doctor next week for blood tests and discussion (cant see why she didnt take blood today ) she gave me a prescription for antibiotics and suggested I start them now or said I could wait for the urine sample to come back then take them. I dont feel comfortable taking them yet though because on reading the leaflet it says not to use if you have problems with your kidneys........I dont know for sure there isnt anything wrong and feel a bit that she didnt really focus on my back pain at all. She sis keep asking if my DH had noticed if I was fitting/jerking at night in my sleep . Anyway hoping it is just an infection and nothing more sinister. Thanks for asking after me.

sorry ohbaby only noticed your question to me, Yes everything seems normal other than the 2 incidents. I hurt my back carrying 2 stone in a backpack...I overdid it and went on a 4 mile hike when my back was already sore from previous days hike.

In case it is a bladder infection, make sure you keep really well hydrated - this helps wash out the bacteria, because you have to pee more often (don't, whatever you do, drink less for fear of wetting yourself!!!!!). Unsweetened cranberry juice is also supposed to help with bladder infections. Bladder infections may not be too serious, but they can become very serious indeed if they do spread to the kidneys.

Good luck! I hope it does just turn out to be a bladder infection.

Yes, if it's a UTI drinking lots should help, and then antibiotics if you need them. Glad you got an appointment and it's reassuring she didn't seem too worried
