I am on Day 6. I wish I had read it 5 years ago. I have literally no cravings at all.

I feel elated.

I hope you will be too !

Oh yes, I read it, I smoked my last cigarette (didn't realise it was the last one) during the last chapter, chucked away an unopened packet and one with a couple in and have never smoked again .

Really reommend. I remember judging people at the next table... "ohh that poor person, smoking. I'm not a smoker, wouldn't want to be one of them.."

It is exciting. Congratulations. How long have you been a non-smoker for now?

That was 8 years ago

Yes I read it on 23rd May 2004 and haven't smoked (or wanted to) since.

And I was quite a heavy smoker. 20 at least, even with a cold, 30+ on a night-out day.

Fantastic! Just judging by my first 6 days, which have consisted of nothing other than excitement that I am a non smoker, I am confident that I won't ever get the desire to smoke ever again.

Hur-fu&*ing-ray !

Yes, I read it in 2001, didn't finish it as I didn't want to be forced to give up and then gave up with no cravings at all a couple of months later. Not smoked since.

How does it end?

I heart Alan Carr.

Some grouch will be along soon though to say they don't think his writing style is much cop.

I read it in 2002 and gave up successfully as a result. DH also read it later on and also gave up successfully. We were both 30 a day smokers who had tried to give up before and failed.

Neither of us have been tempted to take up smoking again.

It really does work

oh my god, great feedback!

i'm still a smoker . but haven't enjoyed it in a long time. don't smoke all the time, can't face it many days. silly. i suppose i fooled myself that i'm just a social smoker and that it couldn't be hurting me that much.

love smoking when i drink (alcohol) or after meals, probably because when i'm drunk i can't taste it so much.

go through evey day of my life despising myself for it and worrying sick about illness.

i'm halfway through the book. will probably finish it tonight. can't stop now.

I stopped smoking over a year ago courtesy of that book. I think part of my motivation was that it was so annoyingly written I'd do anything to avoid having to read it again

Seriously, though, keep re-reading it for a while after you've stopped. Everything he says about how much healthier and happier you will feel is true.

You can do this!

I read it quite a few years ago and didn't stop smoking. But when I eventually did I did remeber some of the things he said and it did kind of help. The idea that snokers don't actually enjoy things like meals, social occasions etc waiting for the next cigarette moment etc. As a 40-50 a day smoker that rang true! Hardest thing I've ever done and thing I am proudest of. Feels good when you kick it but you have to really want to.

snorkers? I meant smokers of course.

I guess I am the person, I couldn't read it, after about a chapter I wanted to hunt him down and strap his fingers together so he could never type again! It is all that american build up stuff, I just cannot stomach it.

On the more positive side, anyone I know who has managed to make it through the sickly sweet guff () only says good stuff about it!

Good luck, I think that there is a way that will work for everyone, you just have to work out what that is and when the right time is for it to work, if Alan Carr is your thing and this is your time you will do it

Don't worry, I think I have found my "thing" and I am hoping this is the right time - I am 3.5 weeks since my last cigarette and feeling rather good

see, i think he sounds rather sweet! i know it's repetitive, but he sounds so genuine and positive!

well, well done to everybody on the thread who has given up. when you can see that people still remember the date they gave up, like notplayinganymore (nearly four years!!) you remember that it is a big step, and not easy.

theladyevenstar you poor thing. swine flu! do you feel absolutely awful? i'm in ireland, not much sign of it around here.

I loved it, even though his prose was clunking. It's got to be worth a go. He flunked out when he tried to extend the logic to food and booze though. I wasn't convinced.

lady, you poor thing and your poor ds
how long have you both been sick? it must be quite nerve-racking for you to see the lo like that too.

pickyvic - no! not the comedian, a self-help writer and stop smoking guru, see wiki

bof - my parents both quit years ago after reading the smoking book, but my mum said the food one was pushing it a bit, she couldn't get her head round it.
