How long have the stitches been in?

When you think about it they are a foreign body so the tissue around the wound starts to react to it as if it wants to get rid of it - sore, itchy, red and slightly inflamed.

But inflamed doesn't mean infected so it may not need anything doing. (Hard to tell from a picture though).

Usually as soon as the stitches are out everything settles down quite quickly. You would only need antibiotics now if you are systemically unwell ie have a fever and feel poorly. Or if the wound is infected and has spreading cellulitis, or is oozing, pussy, breaking down.

sidge, the op was wednesday last week. the third pic down was taken yesterday so you can see the difference in the change.

it is very itchy, I know that is normal tho.

I feel crap, achy and sore, and not right....last night I felt pretty good!

erm....oh, feels like spots do when they need squeezing.

Hmm, I think it looks like localised inflammation but as I said that's hard to tell from a pic. It doesn't look infected and it has the appearance of a normal healing but slightly inflamed wound.

Normally for a simple wound like that the stitches would be out by now - when have they told you to get them removed?

Hi I have had quite a few injuries with similar stitches in the same place, yours look like mine all did as they healed.

My stitches did start to pull and get itchy and sore after a few days. Its a real pain but it will get better when you have them removed.

Do you have a local minor injuries unit you can pop to, IMO its difficult to describe a wound over the phone. My minor injuries unit was v.helpful.

Are you on antibiotics already? (sometimes they give them just in case)

they are coming out monday.

am pleased that it doesn;t look bad. I think I am reacting to the plaster tho (the red line around the wound is the plaster that came of this morning to 'air' the wound. I cover it at night as the stitches catch. flame takes the plaster off as I am a big wimp and cannot take it off myself

the receptionist at the docs was a bit sniffy when I asked to be seen. apparently I don;t qualify for an appointment unless my leg is close to falling off, but I can go to walk-in clinic tomorrow....even tho walking hurts like buggery and I have no way of getting there due to inabilty to drive. today I have help!!!

Can you use micropore tape to hold a dressing over it rather than plaster as you are reacting to it { I react to plaster too which can be painful and itchy in insteslf }

I have lots of sympathy for you - I had a 'nubbin' removed from my lower leg, for cosmetic reasons, a few years ago and had I realised how horrible and long the aftermath would be, I wouldn't have had it done.

Hope it all feels better soon.

I found it easier to go dressing-less although its not for everyone and I am maybe more used to it.

The constant stickyness removing is what can cause the irritation not necessarily the sticky stuff itself (make sense??)Maybe try a bigger dressing so the same skin is not being use where the edge lies.

I appreciate this is not making a lot of sense hehe.
