I got pg with BAbyG whilst on the pill, so I'm ruling that out

I had an IUD fitted straight after dd. I had been on the pill for many years though b4 having dd and just thought it wasn't worth going back on it and wanted to give my body a break (it was also one less thing to think about and when you sometimes can;t remember your own name in the first few months of having a baby, I thought it was the best way to go!). FOr me , its been great, don't have to think about contraception. A word of warning though, it can make some women have heavy and more painful periods. Saying that< i used to have v painful periods before going on the pill and having been on it for 10 years plus was dreading what a 'normal' period would be like. However, I've had no probs at all with the IUD.

Also, thought it was a quickly reversible form of contraception should I want more children. Although as it turns out, loving my time with dd so much (now 2 and a half), not sure I'm gonna have anymore anyway! But I personally found it took a good 6 months before my body totally got over being on the pill when trying for dd.

I put a post-birth photo of my nether regions up on the bedroom ceiling. works a treat. Unless you're not at home. Or in the bedroom.

Think children are the best form of contraception available!!!!!!!!

condoms+persona (no sex at all during the fertile times).

i can't use progesten-based contraception due to side effects/depression.

i can't use combined-hormone contraception due to hypertension.

don't like how the copper coil works.

don't want to get sterilised whilst they're still using the GA+blow up tummy with gas method.

DH won't get the snip.

so this is what we're left with.

I use cerazette (newer mini-pill)- no periods, no problems. Plan to come off it soon to TTC. Have been very happy on it for 18 months and would use it again.

I wouldn't recommend depo as a great option, as it can delay your fertility coming back once you stop it and has several unpleasant side effects.

If you can take the combined pill, there's also a weekly patch version. Implants and coils are also v effective, easily reversible and take the faff out of having to remember to take something daily.

I tried Cerazette and it sent me loopy (crazed hormonal loopy as well - not a good look for me). Now DH is having the snip. Consultant point blank refused to do me and pointed at him and invited him to step up (and he has hurrah!)

Must chase up his appt actually

i never stopped bleeding on cerazette, i got terrible acne, mood swings from hell, and lost my libido entirely.

and those swab tests+blood test are NOT fun.

thanks, WMMC! . we'll live, for sure, thankfully.

and at least, DD1 will be okay for her birthday next week.

Am interested in people's thoughts on the various different IUDs as have no knowledge of them but it seems to be the way I'm being nudged post children. Any recommendations?

Report
expatinscotland · 11/06/2009 23:21

the second you turn 35 and have children and ask about contraception is the second they never let up trying to hard-sell you those blardy IUDs.

And have you succumbed ?

it was a real disaster for me, token.

i found out the hard way that progesten-based contraception and i are not destined to ever get on.

i don't like how the copper coil works so it's not for me, either.

but there are plenty of threads in the health section about them both so have a browse!

plus condoms?

are you not in a monogamous relationship then?

vasectomy - my dh refused at first - until i told him he was staying at home with the kids if i got pregnant again.

its just a question of fairness. its not fair that i had to have doctors hands up my fandango, forcepts etc - its your turn mate. becuase i refuse to have my body treated this way any more.

i told dh i wasn't taking anything else and if we got pregnant - then he was looking after them

anyway - my dh did becuase he didn't want any more kids

Report
GossipMonger · 11/06/2009 23:28

yes I am in a mono relationship but want to be sure that I NEVER get pg again!
