DS constant problems with nails just like DH - what to do?

DH has had really bad problems with his feet all his life due to bad shaped nails - they grow into his feet in places and dont have nice neat shapes that you just cut squarely across the top. They get nastily infected and he operates on them with a sterilised needle - I am not kidding!!I thought it must be due to bad shoes or something in the past. But now DS has the same and his nails are driving me nuts - especially the toenails - they are such a bad shape - grow out at points they shouldnt and the cuticles seem all wrong shape. ALways breaking, looking awful and that he might get infection in them.Asked HV about them long time ago and all she said was to not cut them so short. (not a lot of help)

So what do I do -think DS is going to have problems and would like to help. Would a chiropodist help? - could I get NHS help?

Help appreciated.

Not quite the same thing Mumfun, but my dd1 has oddly shaped toes. Her two smallest toes bend over at the tops towards the other toes. I worry about the nails on those toes cutting into the next-door toes (iykwim), but for her just keeping them really short does work.
